Batjak–John Wayne’s production company interesting to hear Denver Pyle without his put-on Southern accent 86 minute mark–totally random stock footage of airplanes inserted “China Doll” is not a terrible film but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired–particularly if you like war films or know much about WWII airplanes.
It’s sad, as with a few changes and a better ending, it could have been satisfying. A group of American servicemen are responsible for flying ‘the hump’–a journey from India to China to provide war materials for the fight against the Japanese. However, this is a film with LOTS of complications for their love–and the ending certainly won’t satisfy romance lovers! See the film and you’ll understand. For me, the sappy and sickly sweet and difficult to believe romance was not the major problem.

Among others, there are cloth dolls, wooden dolls, wax dolls, plastic dolls, vinyl dolls, metal-headed dolls, celluloid dolls, composition dolls and dolls with heads, arms and legs made from porcelain. Dolls with porcelain heads that have been fired more than once and have a glaze on them are called china-headed dolls. These usually have a rather placid, glossy surface, and the doll in today’s question is one of these.
Most china-headed dolls were made in Germany, but some are attributed to France and England. Few china-headed dolls were marked by their makers, and this makes most china-headed dolls difficult to attribute to a particular manufacturer. To date china-headed dolls, collectors rely on hair style and whether the head was made by pressing clay into a mold by hand or by pouring liquid clay called “slip” into a mold. Most china-headed dolls made before were made by the pressing method, and these can be easily identified because they are usually thicker and not as uniform as the poured examples, and pressing sometimes left finger marks.
It should also be mentioned that before , china heads were purchased separately and someone at home stitched a body and attached porcelain arms and legs that were purchased separately.

We visited China Doll for a date night for my husbands birthday. Overall we had a great experience and staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the NZ king salmon sashimi a must! Best sashimi we have ever eaten , chilli salt squid this was very dry and needed a dipping sauce – I would not recommend , pork and peanut San Choy Bau husband loved this , salt and pepper prawns and Penang curry of slow braised wagyu beef shin also a must – very unique flavours.
The waiter suggested we order the two mains as half servings as we had ordered so much, was excellent advice! We would have preferred a half sizing of the chilli salt squid and more of the prawns or Penang curry. They also discounted the mains by exactly half which was great. Not many places like this would split it by exactly half maybe a discount.
We will definitely return to try some new dishes and also the sashimi again! Really nice location on wharf..
